Alajotas Dance & Music Int’l was formed in 1999 at the New Culture studio, Oremeji, Mokola Ibadan, by Christopher Emmanuel (formerly known as Abdul Yisa Onibasa), following his resignation as the director cum choreographer of the Omitun dance company 1987-1999.
Alajota; as the name implies
“Terpsichorean merchant.” Transliteration, “dance seller,” was derived from the traditional epithet of the ancient Yoruba itinerant performer though dance afficionadoes cum intelligensias often called Christopher Emmanuel (Abdul Yisa Onibasa), the name “Alajota” owing to his conspicous pertinacity in dance professionalism in spite of the odds … in the dance industry.
