CATCH ALL THE ACTION: Gold flashing everywhere as Olympics wind down
Fri 06 Aug, 15:01
Brazil and Spain, two of the game's powerhouses, will contest the Olympic Games football final on Saturday.
The South Americans are the defending champions, but may be stretched by Spain, who scored five goals in their quarterfinal and then outlasted hosts Japan in the last four.
Elsewhere, the athletics track is expected to be a scorcher, whether it's the temperature or anticipated performances. The women's 4 x 400m final takes place (2.30pm); 10 minutes later, the men will contest the same discipline.
Not forgetting the 10 000m women's final that includes Dominique Scott of South Africa and Ethiopia's Gidey Letesenbet, the world record holder in both the 5 000m and 10 000m.
Look out, too, for Africa's contingent in the men's 1 500m final, led by reigning world champion Timothy Cheruiyot of Kenya. But the danger man may be Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the fearless Norwegian who has been tearing up tracks all across Europe and was the second fastest qualifier.
