A new DC trailer offers fans their first look at Arthur Curry's (Jason Momoa) two suits in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Following their first successful team-up for 2018's Aquaman, the actor is reuniting with director James Wan for the sequel. Set to release in December 2022, the blockbuster tackles Arthur's journey as he officially becomes the king of Atlantis.
Principal photography for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom started in June 2021 and ended earlier this year. This gives Wan and his team enough time to polish the flick as it enters its post-production stage. Specific plot details are still scant at the moment, but a behind-the-scenes trailer released during DC FanDome 2021 gave fans an idea of what to expect from the sequel. Now, however, Warner Bros. is sharing official footage from the movie, focusing on its titular character as he learns how to rule Atlantis while also maintaining his connection with human beings.
Among Warner Bros.' collective trailer for their DC 2022 movie slate is a snippet of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Released ahead of Super Bowl LVI, the video clocks in around one minute long and features all the heroes fronting their own movies this year. For Momoa and Wan's film, it reveals Arthur's two suits — he wears one as he goes through his adventures, while the other one as he sits on the Atlantean throne. Watch the footage below:
It makes sense that Arthur will have two suits in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom since his story will also have two aspects. As the new official ruler of Atlantis, it's safe to assume that the film will see him carrying out royal duties, the same way Orm (Patrick Wilson) did in the first film. Perhaps, it might even involve dealing with politics as he's still establishing himself as the new king. But, spending the rest of the narrative with him in Atlantis would be too boring. So instead, he also goes on an adventure where he would need a separate battle costume, which is more likely the navy blue suit that he's sporting in the aforementioned clip.
Suffice to say, there's massive pressure for Wan and Momoa to deliver on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom again. Aquaman remains to be the highest-grossing DC film of all time and despite some of its flaws, it's universally loved. It's also the only sequel in DC 2022's movie slate. So if the follow-up film can't top its predecessor, the least it can do is be on par with the original flick. Anything less than that could, unfortunately, be disappointing for fans
