Years ago in the mountains, there was a battle

Between who would own the light and who would own the shadow

Classic storytelling, like good versus evil

The winner would control the valley full of people

Two spirits, neither inherently flawed

On the level gods, people to talk, yes

Comparing the odds, bets, left and right

And so people started gambling on the spirits' fight

Putting everything they had up, just to get their bag up

Couple got lucky and a couple did their math, cut

To generations later, those that had it have it greater

Used to worry 'bout their crops

Now they worry 'bout their paper

Get it by any means, nothing was safe

Not the trees all around them, it was money to make

Not the rocks in the mountains housing the great

Spirits still in their dance, whose colors started to fade

Elders gave warnings, the consequences grave

They had wisdom, but wisdom didn't get them paid

So nobody listened, and the status quo stayed

But the foundation of the world was bound to give way

Then one day, the valley folk awoke to awful news

The riverbed had gone dry, what were they to do

Now the small fries were really big dudes

The elders knew the history

And what did they choose? Feed the richest man to the spirits

Money is no good now we want all of y'all to hear it

We have no water

So what matters more? Money or our sons and daughters

Because we've started war

Every time we took from nature, it kept a tally

Underneath this asphalt used to be a green valley

The spirits are nature in a physical form

And our richest man is our greed, spirits got something for him

Nature isn't 'bout revenge or retaliation

It's about letting the pendulum swing back a couple generations

Before the start of the problems were facing

For us it's devastation, for them it's reclamation

For us it's a malicious attack

For them it's the way things go when shit gets outta whack

We are not better than

We are part of

We forget it even though we are the smart ones

The crowd stood in silence, shocked at the demand

But would they follow through? To save their own land?

The richest man stepped forward and ordered

People to jail their elders

Finally people took a stand

It didn't matter how much he had earned

Once he was given to the spirits, the legend says that he was burned

When the crowd got back to the valley

The water in the river had returned
