I want to live life just like Neil Young in the '80s

And release a couple records so bad that my own label sues me

Then I'll reunite with Crosby, Stills and Nash

But with them I'll still release an album that is pretty bad

I want to make a record just like Everybody's Rockin'

And confuse my fanbase so much that nobody knows what the hell I'm doing

And then I'll come out with "Rockin' in the Free World"

And be praised so much that everyone will say that I have returned

But I haven't made Harvest or After The Gold Rush for start

I've never written "Only Love Can Break Your Heart"

I don't even know if I'll ever have a Rust Never Sleeps in me

Or even a Harvest Moon, so why should I compete?

I want to live life just like Paul Simon in the '90s

And write a stage musical about a Puerto Rican murderer in the '50s

But the show will completely and utterly flop

Despite my attempts to reinvigorate the Broadway musical art form

But I was never in Simon and Garfunkel, and I never wrote "Ms Robinson"

I'm not even sure if I'll make anything quite like Graceland

Don't think I'll ever have a Bridge Over Troubled Water in me

So how can I even compete?

I want to live life just like Lou Reed in the 2000's

And release an album so out there and experimental like The Raven

Then I'll go on to collaborate with Metallica

And release a weird ass album with them, then bite the dust

But I've never started a band even on the same level as The Velvet Underground

How to write a song like "Pale Blue Eyes", I don't even know how

I don't think even have a "Walk On The Wild Side" in me

So there's no way I can even compete

But tell me:

Why am I even comparing myself to these legends?

Do I even expect people to sing along?

What point am I even trying to send?

I should try to actually be Neil Young or Paul Simon

And I especially shouldn't try to be Lou Reed

I should try to be Sir Vessel in the 2020's and keep writing my own songs

And maybe have my own flop era, that would be enough for me
